LPSMC Triumphs in Hong Kong Secondary Schools Debating Competition Grand Final

On July 2nd, Liu Po Shan Memorial College secured a resounding victory against Tsung Tsin College in the Grand Final of the Hong Kong Secondary Schools Debating Competition. The fiercely contested debate centred on the motion: “This house regrets the prominence of filial piety as the guiding principle in Asian households.” LPSMC’s team delivered a compelling performance, showcasing sharp critical thinking, eloquent delivery, and cohesive teamwork to clinch the championship title.

A special mention goes to Candy Wong of LPSMC, who was awarded the Best Speaker of the Grand Final. This accolade served as a fitting tribute to her four years of dedicated service to the LPSMC English Debating Team. Candy’s articulate delivery, incisive arguments, and ability to engage the audience were pivotal in the team’s success. As this was her final debate before stepping down to focus on her final year studies, her teammates and coach celebrated her outstanding contribution, noting her growth into a formidable debater and leader.

LPSMC’s victory underscores their commitment to excellence in competitive debating, and Candy Wong’s Best Speaker award highlights her remarkable legacy within the team. The school community extends its congratulations to the team and heartfelt gratitude to Candy for her invaluable contributions over the years.

Reflection by Wong Sin Ping, Candy (5D)

As I conclude my journey in debating, this Grand Final is a huge testament to my growth over the past few years as I have embraced this activity.

Here, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Mr. Byron, for helping me discover aspects of myself that I wouldn’t have known without this experience. I’m incredibly grateful to all the teammates that I have debated with, as well as those I have debated against, for fostering the teamwork skills and resilience I now possess. I would also like to thank the Principal for your unwavering support of the team, recognising the hard work and dedication we have put in every round.

As I close off this chapter, I am carrying with me cherished memories, invaluable friendships, and the lifelong lessons learned.

Wishing all members of the EDT the best in the future!
